Subject: Christmas memories
Good Morning Rob, I hope this chilly morning finds you well. As I get ready to return to work today after a long wonderful vacation I think back to all the Christmas blessings. And there is one that really stands out and I know your company was part of it, you can choose to share this or not, it’s up to you, but I feel they should know even though Christmas is over, that lives are still being touched.
As you know I serve at the Women's and children's shelter on Hillside Street in Asheville at least once a month and this December was no different. I went into serve, and also brought my son, Justin with me.
Usually at the shelter the moms with kids are lined up first as to get them settled. The second family through had a mom and three kids. The oldest was a young boy of about 9 or 10, and he was carrying a skateboard. As we helped them with their plates, the family asked Justin and I to help them down the stairs with all their food. We happily, obliged. On the way down they boy asked if I noticed his new skateboard, I replied “of course.” As we settled them down to a table he told me he got to shop at Dick's Sporting Goods the evening before and got to buy anything he wanted. He then asked me if I would like to hold his new skateboard. (I knew where this was going at this point and had to hold back the tears). He went on and on about the best night he ever had, and that he would never forget it. He also said the skateboard would go where ever he went, and be under the shelter table when he ate and under the bed in the shelter while he slept. He said, “I'll never let this out of my sight!” The young boy also added his mom "made him" get the pads to go with the board. (go mom) Then he continued he even had enough to get a pair of gloves with the extra money, and I think he said socks as well. "Best Christmas I ever had" he said, and then he sat down to eat.
And if that doesn't warm our hearts and break them at the same time I don't know what does. Thank you to you, and your company, and Dick's as well for such a special evening for 100 kids. We usually don't see smiles that bright while helping at the shelter. Thank you for making some Christmas dreams come true.

Dear Shaffer Group Inc.,
I just wanted to send you all a heart felt thank you for helping my four children and myself this year for Christmas. I think what you did for these children is wonderful, and I am very grateful for people like you. They had the greatest time picking out what they wanted. Just know that you made what would of been a not so good Christmas for them the best they have had! Again thank you and you are all forever in my prayers!
Sincerely,
Linda Sobeck (mother of Eddie, Linda, Nick, and Steven) ________________________________________________________________________________________________
From Mary Shaffer, Plymouth Meeting, PA Sponsor to her Volunteers
What can we say? The event was a big success. With your organizational and shopping skills, all the children seemed to have a blast.
And some of the volunteers as well… Balloon blowers – I think Lisa Murphy was a little worried that we were not doing balloons the night before (admit it, Lisa)-but it added to the pressure of being ready when the doors opened. Guard on door – No one was getting past Rick Reid unless he received the “nod” from me. He held everyone at bay. Registration girls – the challenge of language barriers, spelling errors and finding “stolen” name tags only added to the fun. I think one woman went through all 5 of you before we were able to determine who the child was. Assistants at registration – kept the flow moving, getting correct sizes and SMILING. Photographers – We will send some pics for all to see. I know you got some great shots. They are being worked on as I write this. Check out – You had a tough job but you got to see the end result of the shopping sprees and happy kids. Never mind trying to make sense of Gary’s math—4 kids, 4 cards, how much did you spend???!!## Balloons – If Christine & Mike are missing, they may be up in the rafters of Dick’s. Even when I thought we were at the end and she could stop giving out balloons—she refused. Shoes – If Sarah is missing—she is most likely still in the shoe department at Dick’s. Shoppers – You were wonderful!! Pushing carts, finding sizes, offering suggestions and just plain being nice to people when they need it. Guys, HOW many of those super balls are up in the ceiling tiles??## Who said the balloons in the rafters will set off the burglar alarms?? Who has a football game going on in the sweats aisle? Who is letting that child ride a skate board in the store? Can anyone catch that child on the big wheel—he is very fast? I don’t think he really meant to stick his tongue out at you, Judy. Boys will be boys!! Jenni is missing too! Maybe still in the sweatshirt section finding those twins what they really wanted AFTER 4 people worked to get them the right shoes.
We all saw the smiles and joy from the kids but there were also tears of joy, gratitude, hope and love from parents, guardians, nominators and YES, you volunteers too! You have helped make memories and perhaps changed the lives of some. Save your T-shirt because we are doing it next year!
Thank you for all your help and support. It would not have been possible without you. Mary _____________________________________________________________________________________________ From: Danelle Drake [mailto:Danelle.Drake@bcsemail.org]

Dear Joyal Capital Management Foundation, I wanted to thank you for the opportunity to do something like this. It was an amazing day. Coming from a family that isn’t as well off as others this was something that I appreciated a lot. I hope the people in the years to follow find this opportunity as amazing as I did. Thank you! Can’t tell you how much that meant to me. You asked Sunday what we would take away and wanted you to know 1 story I’ll always remember. A rather puzzled fella with (2) young girls in tow. Ours was holding a ball and another bag of small balls. …they had been there quite a while and I thought he could use help. He said he guessed he was done? I had my eye on a cute ‘clearance’ hoodie earlier and showed it to him and her…I guess she thought she would have to give back balls – as she held the balls tighter. The dad/guardian explained she was autistic and her focus can only be on 1 thing at a time and it would be the ball. He wanted the jacket and said he would just buy it himself. The Dicks Manager (female) was also there and redirected him to the back corner for more toy type items that might interest her…very helpful because they ended up with a Disneyland puptent playset w/sleeping bag and little sister got ‘balls’ too. While they were still way under $$ amount….it made my day and theirs I believe….while tying balloons on wrists from Zack up front…I got a ‘you are a nice lady…’ from the lil gal…
So yes…my husband David and I thank you both for Sunday.

Ed-- Below is the message that our principal sent me when we found out that all 4 of our nominated students were selected. As you can see, it also meant alot to her. Additionally, she told me today that one of the parents started crying when she told the mom, and another mom said that she simply could not believe that her daughter was chosen.
Thanks for giving us this opportunity, Coral Jeffries
